Cabin on the Cowpasture
Nelson Hoy & Elizabeth (Lizzie) Biggs
Berriedale Farms and its Cabin on the Cowpasture River is ideal for family vacations, father and son hunting trips, and mother and daughter get-a-ways. Our log Cabin is nestled in a mature forest and it overlooks a great bend in the Cowpasture River. Berriedale Farms is surrounded by The George Washington National Forest on the east and the Highland Wildlife Management Area on the west. Our forests, pasture lands and the Cowpasture River are all protected under an innovative and progressive conservation easement granted in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy – the most prestigious conservation non-profit in the world.
Our Cabin on the Cowpasture River is located in Highland County, Virginia – arguably the least populated county east of the Mississippi River. We are about 185 miles southwest of Washington, DC and about 35 miles west of Staunton, Virginia. You will find access to our log cabin is via a private gravel road and that there are no other people or buildings or roads within half a mile. The cabin is best suited for those who wish to leave behind them all things urban. Come with a close friend or family. And bring a really engrossing book or perhaps, two.
The log cabin's amenities include: a small and cozy living room, a large sleeping loft with queen-sized bed and two singles, a small bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom with shower, a complete kitchen, and a 30-foot covered porch. During cooler or cold weather, our Cabin on the Cowpasture is heated with a wood-burning fireplace. The cabin, in the summer time, is cooled with a ceiling fan, shade trees and mountain air. The log cabin features an oak and hickory wood-burning outdoor grilling pit and a large Weber charcoal grill.
Berriedale Farms and its Cabin on the Cowpasture River is especially welcoming to children and grandchildren. Horses are welcome, also. Dogs may be leash-free. No cats.
